Habitat for Humanity Toronto unveils first solar energy 20-unit condominium community
Hundreds will gather at 1500 Weston Road tomorrow at 12:00 pm to help give nine hardworking families the keys to their new homes on the site of Canada's first solar-panel technology homes built by Habitat for Humanity. Marking Summer Solstice, Habitat Toronto's solar build showcases GreenHouse® certified construction standards and 25-30% more energy efficient homes than those built to minimum Ontario Building Code standards.

Market conditions for solar PV (photovoltaic) in Ontario have improved significantly since November 2006, when the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) launched the RESOP (Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program). The RESOP program guarantees CAD$0.42 for every kWh of solar PV and was designed to help ease the strain on Ontario’s electricity system while promoting system reliability.
